Design Talk: A look at how we use universal languages to connect and understand each other

July 4, 2017

As part of a drafting course I am taking, the Professor asked us to answer the following question: What do you think will prove to be the more important in your drafting: precision or creativity? Why? At first, I didn’t really know how to answer the question and reading other people’s answers on the discussion board was very overwhelming. They all shared very powerful design perspectives while answering. I struggled with my answer at first so I walked away to take some time to think …

Design Psychology: What it is and why it’s important

June 26, 2017

Interior design psychology is a field within environmental psychology, which concerns the environmental conditions of the interior. It is a direct study of the relationship between an environment and how that environment affects the behaviour of its inhabitants, with the aim of maximizing the positive effects of this relationship. Through interior design psychology the performance and efficiency of the space and the well-being of the individual are improved. What it is to me? Designing from …

Work Space: Creating Space for Corporate Cultures

June 6, 2017

It has been my experience having spent 10+ years in a corporate environment, that what starts at the top, trickles down. What the woman/man in charge thinks/believes/says/does, has a direct impact on the employees, the clients and the corporate culture itself. Of course, much more contributes to the overall experience of a company in its entirety however, I like to assume that in most cases, the one in charge usually sets the direction and tone for what is most important to the …

I truly do have the best clients a girl could ask I truly do have the best clients a girl could ask for! They know I do things differently and they embrace my concepts but most importantly, it helps them and I couldn’t ask for anything more. If you feel like popping over and giving me a vote, the link is in bio. Nominated for best Interior Decorator this year and I sure do appreciate the love 💕

⁣ ⁣The time we spend idle makes for a healthie ⁣
⁣The time we spend idle makes for a healthier state of mind. Simpler things bring us joy. We want less and are more at peace when we get it. We sleep better and work harder. When we observe our immediate surroundings, we are more grounded in our context and more attuned to the rhythms of whatever season or home we are in. ⁣

⁣Our environments are a reflection of our behaviours. Good or bad. They also reflect how we think, feel and what we believe. They determine how we eat, dress, move, work, sleep and relate. They are an intricate part of who we are and how we live. We can also shift and change them to support us in creating new habits, patterns and behaviours and alter our thoughts, feelings and relationships. ⁣
⁣
⁣
⁣Have a look around, does your space support the life you are trying to create? If not, consider how changing something in your environment could potentially change something inside yourself. We get one life, let’s design it to look and feel the way we want it to. #designpsychology #spacematters

⁣Monday is cleaning day in our house. I used to feel guilty for not being in the office first thing Monday morning but I’ve realized how important it is for my space to be clean and in order before I can focus on anything else for the week. A huge challenge with working from home has been the endless household to-do list that can so easily distract me from being productive. Who can relate? So, I have a dedicated day to get it all done so I can focus during the week and still have the weekend to rest and relax. ⁣

⁣
⁣Using my space to support me has been my greatest energy-saving life hack while working from home. Our spaces can drain our energy or they can give us life. It all depends on how we take care of them. Take care of your home and it will take care of you. #designpsychology #spacematters
