Spring is here and summer is not too far away now. It took a bit of time here on the West Coast this year, but it has arrived and She, is beautiful!
I always find a start to a new season so refreshing. It allows me to see the year in smaller pieces which makes it much more manageable. Each season, I allow myself the opportunity to ‘start again’ in all areas of my life.
Below are the top 10 ways I create room for Spring and intentionally decide how and what, I want to create for the upcoming months. Try some of them out for yourself and watch how space starts to open up for whatever it is you are focusing on.
10 Ways to Create Space for Spring
- Décor – this being the most obvious and perhaps maybe the most fun! I like to switch out the heavier wool throws for lighter, more airy covers. I also switch out the candle scents and throw pillows to lighten up the colour palette and energy of the space.
- Fresh Air – I absolutely love that I can now open every window in the house. Throw the curtains back and open the windows as wide as you can. Allow that beautiful fresh air to fill your space. I also switch out the diffuser scents; right now we have immune for allergies running 24/7.
- Sleep – nothing excites me more than sunshine beaming through the window. I know without even getting out of bed that it’s going to be a beautiful day. However for sleep time, this can be a problem. Black-out curtains or an eye-mask can do wonders for keeping that light out while you get those last few zzz’s. Ear-plugs also help block out the noise from early morning yard maintenance!
- Diet – we have started making the switch from casseroles and comfort food to smoothies and salads. Lighting up on our meals and portion control are definitely part of our ‘spring-clean’ routine. I also like to come up with some fun snacks that will be enjoyable in the heat. Cherries and frozen watermelon chunks are our go-to’s at the moment.
- Exercise – taking it from inside to outside! Now that the rain has stopped for the most part and the weather is getting warmer, we can get outside. Walking the trails with the pup has slowly started to replace the gym. A bike ride along the seawall is also on the agenda!
- Fashion – I find when the weather heats up, it is more important than ever to feel comfortable in my clothes. The wool sweaters are put away (well, most of them!) and I have opted for some great bamboo pieces this year that feel absolutely amazing on my skin and have the ability to breathe.
- Skin care – is definitely something that gets changed up with the seasons. Now that we are past the harshness of winter, I swap my heavier moisturizer with a lighter oil. Currently I am using the original face elixir from Harlow (a local company!), and it comes in a small, tinted glass bottle with a dropper that I can easily throw into my beach or overnight bag for all the last-minute adventures that come with this time of year.
- Self-care – this seems to change with the seasons too as my body needs and craves different things to stay balanced. Lately I have added cupping to my body work routine to begin to remove all of the stored toxins from the winter. I also switch out my regular winter time bubble-bath for coconut oil and fresh lavender from the garden. This nightly ritual before bed helps me sleep so well and wake up uber-refreshed.
- Connection – the upcoming months tend to ramp up as kids get out of school and summer plans start to be made. Especially this time of year, finding time to connect casually with the people who matter most to me is so important. A walk with the dogs, a coffee in the park – even the smallest opportunities for connection really fill my soul.
- Intention – last but certainly not least; creating a season of intention (this is different than plans!). Getting clear on what I want to focus on for the upcoming season is essential to my progress. Spring is the ultimate time for growth! Whether this is goal setting, vision boarding, journaling… by evaluating what I want to create for myself, my family and my business in a small snapshot of 3 or 4 months, allows it to be much more manageable. It also keeps me moving forward but still rooted present in the moment.
Seasons come and go and if we aren’t paying attention, they will fly right by us. By clearing the clutter in all areas (physical, mental, spiritual and emotional) and creating intentional space, we invite these seasons to move us through life with as much ease and grace as possible.
