Energetic Bank Accounts: how to keep them balanced and in the green

November 29, 2018

It’s the time of the year, right before the holidays, where I really choose to pay close attention to my energy levels.

We have lots of birthday’s this time of year in addition to all the other celebrations, and with two families in different cities, the holidays can sometimes be more full, than relaxing. So in order to enjoy the next five weeks and still move into the new year fresh, I really become conscious of my energy levels.

I view my energy levels like a bank account and share this comparison with my clients often. Withdrawals and deposits. In the green or constantly in energetic overdraft? In order to put out the amount of energy required to live my life, especially this time of year, I need to ensure I am depositing into the energy bank account so I don’t go into total withdrawal.

It is important for me to keep this energetic account balanced or a few unpleasant things happen. When I have made too many energetic withdrawals without replacing the energy, my anxiousness increases, I feel more stress and tend to end up feeling very overwhelmed. When I get to that place, my immune system weakens, my body doesn’t feel as strong and my emotions become unbalanced. It does not feel good. However, I also recognize that this is an unnecessary cycle I can prevent, simply by being aware and consciously choosing where my energy goes.

I revisited a couple of lists I made a little while back. What drains my energy (=withdrawals) and what increases my energy (=deposits). Doing these lists allowed me to clearly see where I wanted to place my energy, and where I didn’t so that I could stay in the green. By staying in the plus, and not allowing myself to dip into energetic withdrawal, I prevent feeling extra stress, anxiety, overwhelm and resentment.

My lists are below.

If you are starting to feel energetically drained, tired or even anxious for the upcoming holidays, take a quick inventory of what drains your energy and what replenishes it. Sometimes the answers are so simple when we give ourselves a moment to get clear. Some of my energy drainers were things I could easily prevent just by becoming aware of them.

By getting clear on the deposits, we can take time each day, even if it’s just a moment, to give ourselves an energy deposit. We can revisit these lists throughout the next five weeks and ensure we create a balance of giving to ourselves too by replacing our spent energy.

What a beautiful gift to give ourselves throughout the holidays when we energetically give so much to other things, people and places.

What Drains My Energy

  1. not being myself
  2. overcommitting
  3. tight ponytails
  4. cigarette smoke
  5. too much TV
  6. pop
  7. people pleasing
  8. being rushed or late
  9. gossip
  10. ignoring my body
  11. florescent lights
  12. dirty or messy spaces

What Replenishes My Energy

  1. connection
  2. bubble baths
  3. foot rubs
  4. fresh flowers
  5. rituals and routines
  6. clean and organized space
  7. meditation
  8. walking Kona (my dog)
  9. belly laughs
  10. manicured nails
  11. dancing
  12. caring for my home

Now you try! It only takes a few moments and who knows, maybe doing this exercise may end up being a deposit!

Live well,

I truly do have the best clients a girl could ask I truly do have the best clients a girl could ask for! They know I do things differently and they embrace my concepts but most importantly, it helps them and I couldn’t ask for anything more. ⁣ ⁣The time we spend idle makes for a healthie ⁣
⁣The time we spend idle makes for a healthier state of mind. Simpler things bring us joy. We want less and are more at peace when we get it. We sleep better and work harder. When we observe our immediate surroundings, we are more grounded in our context and more attuned to the rhythms of whatever season or home we are in. ⁣

⁣Our environments are a reflection of our behaviours. Good or bad. They also reflect how we think, feel and what we believe. They determine how we eat, dress, move, work, sleep and relate. They are an intricate part of who we are and how we live. We can also shift and change them to support us in creating new habits, patterns and behaviours and alter our thoughts, feelings and relationships. ⁣

⁣Have a look around, does your space support the life you are trying to create? If not, consider how changing something in your environment could potentially change something inside yourself. We get one life, let’s design it to look and feel the way we want it to. #designpsychology #spacematters

⁣Monday is cleaning day in our house. I used to feel guilty for not being in the office first thing Monday morning but I’ve realized how important it is for my space to be clean and in order before I can focus on anything else for the week. A huge challenge with working from home has been the endless household to-do list that can so easily distract me from being productive. Who can relate? So, I have a dedicated day to get it all done so I can focus during the week and still have the weekend to rest and relax. ⁣

⁣Using my space to support me has been my greatest energy-saving life hack while working from home. Our spaces can drain our energy or they can give us life. It all depends on how we take care of them. Take care of your home and it will take care of you. #designpsychology #spacematters
